It's funny the things you start to think about when you're surrounded by stamps. You begin to see the world with new eyes considering everything in the world around you a blank canvas just ripe for stamping upon. Paper, fabric, walls....even bare skin ...nothing escapes the glare of the stamper's eye. Nothing is beyond the reach of my inky fingers and the thought that 'I could stamp on that!".
Hence the stamped tea towels!
I recently invested in some VersaCraft fabric ink pads and since then no scrap of fabric in my house has felt safe! I chose these tea towels for their flat, tightly woven surface.
I stamped my 'You Wash' 'I'll Dry' slogans [which, since we've had a dishwasher is a battle we have to engage in less often!!!] in 'Steelfish Outline Large' and added a few arrows from the 'It's All About Arrows' set.
To create a soap-bubble effect I combined several circular stamps from the sets: 'Make a Chain ' and 'Steelfish Outline Numbers'.
Once I'd stamped my images I ironed on the reverse of the towel to heat-set the ink, making it waterproof. [Which is just as well when you're making tea towels isn't it???!!!].
Do let me know if you try stamping on fabric - either with this idea or adapting it to something in your own home [I'm already thinking 'stamped pillowcases'!]. It's a great way to make use of your stamps where you can see the results in your everyday routine. But be warned, as:
[a] it is addictive. You may well may catch the 'Oooh look!! A blank canvas. I could Banana Frog that!' bug ...and
[b] it probably won't be a good idea for you spend a lot of time with people who wear plain T-Shirts too often ...the temptation may get too much for you!
If you feel like sharing ... you know where to find me.

can you use any ink pads?
Posted by: elizabeth | May 14, 2009 at 10:51 PM
Hi Elizabeth - I'm not really sure about other inks. Someone did tell me that you can use StazOn on fabric - but I've never tried it.
I guess you could always try several different inks on scrap fabric and put them thorugh the laundry to see how they react. I don't know if they'll run / fade etc.
Hopefully there's some info on fabric / ink online somewhere :)
Thanks for taking an interest.
Julie :)
