Hi all, don’t you just love finding little treasures? I think as crafters we’re all magpies looking for things to play with and I did just that while I was teaching at Bee Crafty the other weekend. I found some bags of papier mache shapes and immediately saw them as my project of the day
Going Mobile
The ingredients
This project uses the lovely flourishes from the Banana Frog Swirls and Butterflies stamp set. They are so useful for creating gorgeous patterns! You will also need, beside some papier mache shapes, the cardboard tube from a kitchen towel roll, organza ribbon, gesso, distress inks in two colours (I used dusty concord and broken china) Clear embossing ink and gold embossing powder.
So first up is to apply gesso to the papier mache shapes. This gives a good base coat for the ink so it doesn’t soak into the papier mache.
Using a piece of cut and dry gradually build up ink on the shapes starting with one of the colours and do the same on the cardboard roll.
Then continue to build up with the other colour until the pieces are inked all over. Because the distress ink stays wet they are really easy to blend together.
Dry the shapes off with a heat gun and if you have one use an anti static pad across the pieces. Taking one of the flourishes from the stamp set use your finger as the stamp base. I’ve done this as the shapes are curved and as the stamps are acrylic they are easy to manipulate like this. Using one of the ink colours build up a flourish pattern on the shapes. It creates a subtle but interesting detail. On the cardboard roll I used one of the bigger flourishes from the stamp set and sat it in the palm of my hand to stamp around the roll. Again dry off with a heat gun and use an anti static pad if you have one on the shapes.
Apply clear embossing ink to the stamp and build up another flourish pattern on the shapes. Add gold embossing powder and then heat. I decided not emboss the cardboard roll but the choice is yours.
Thread all the shapes onto some organza ribbon and thread this through some holes that you pierce along the cardboard roll, tying a knot in the end of the ribbon at the length you want the shape to hang.
Finally thread a piece of organza ribbon through the cardboard roll and tie in a knot so you can use this as the hanger for the mobile
And that’s it a simple, pretty mobile made with special treasures and a bit of re cycling J I hope you’ve enjoyed my little project and if you feel inspired to have a go don’t forget to share the results with us! That’s all from me for this post I’ll say bye for now and see you at the Froggie blog hop on the 30th until then Happy Stamping!
