Hello froggie friends … how are you all? Ready for Velentines day? Need a last minute special gift for that special someone? Well maybe this little project is just the job. It’s super easy and can be made unique by you.
Ti amor
I haven’t gone for the usual red and pink colours for my project, although that doesn’t mean you can’t for yours! I have done mine in bright Mexican influenced colours having just been lucky enough to have spent 3 weeks there on holiday with my lovely hubby. We have spent many Valentine days in Mexico and have a series of photos in frames to remember it, this year however we are back a little earlier so I thought I’d create a memory of our holiday and combine it with hubby’s Valentine gift!
So what do you need? A chipboard heart, either pre cut or one that you cut out yourself. White cardstock, acetate, acrylic paints in your chosen colour scheme, gesso, black permanent pen, Inks in your chosen colours, glitter, ribbons and of course the delicious Banana Frog stamp set Superlicious
I cut out my own chipboard heart as I wanted an irregular shape (the cut line you can see top right is because I cut it out on my fabby scroll saw!)
Paint the heart with gesso to prime the surface and then paint the heart with your chosen acrylic paints. I have graded the colours to darker on the outer edges to create a 3D effect.
While that is drying stamp out some of the large solid flowers from the Superlicious set onto some white cardstock. You will see I graded the colours of ink on the stamp using 3 shades of the colour this creates a great depth when you stamp the image.
Cut out the flowers and snip into the petals so you can lift them to create dimension.
Go back to the heart and using the 2 small scroll stamps from the set, stamp a random pattern over the shape.
While the ink dries draw round your heart template onto some acetate and cut out just inside the outline (so it fits easily on the back of the heart)
Using the same small scroll stamps, stamp a random pattern over the acetate using a permanent ink, leave it aside to dry.
Time to assemble! Slot the flowers together, using the snips made in the petals and stick to the top corner of your heart. Add some glitter to the centre of the flowers (you could leave this until later to avoid smudging while you assemble things!)
Take some pieces of ribbon that match your colour scheme and tie to the left side of the heart with double knots then trim the ends.
Paint a small stripe of gesso to the right side and when it is dry write your message on it. The gesso pushes the colour and stamping back so the writing is clearer and if you don’t want to hand write then why not use stickers, alphas or rub ons!
Turning the heart over add some adhesive to the back and then stick it onto your acetate heart.
Finally print off a small photo (optional!) and cut to the shape you want, adding it onto the acetate with foam pads for added dimension. I like the way it looks like it’s ‘floating’ within the frame.
And that’s it a quick, easy but personal and special gift for someone you love. I’ve displayed mine on a small easel but you could add a small hook to the back or a length of ribbon to hang it. As I said before it could be done in any colour scheme and it would be great as an engagement/wedding present or as a special anniversary gift! I hope you’ll have a play and if you do share won’t you in our F’lickr group, we’re a nosey lot at the Lily pad J
I know Bev is having a hard time choosing our new froglets, so many gorgeous submissions but if you haven’t sent yours yet why not make it even harder for her and get it off to the Lily pad, after all you have until tomorrow!
So until next time froggie friends I’ll say Hasta luego and thanks for hopping by.
Happy Crafting
Love

this is lovely, and quite inspiring technique, even without a valentine :)
