Hi all!
Time for another stamping school! Hope you’ve all been enjoying your stained glass tea lights in the garden during the long summer evenings. I thought this time I would do a Layout for you and share some stamping ideas for your scrapping so here it is …
Spread your wings and fly The idea for this project came after a fab workshop I attended, taught by my fellow froglet Tracie. One of the classes involved an acetate overlay and I thought how fun it would be to make my own. The ingredients
Banana Frog Tropical garden and Funky Paisley stamp set. Stayzon, 12x12 acetate, A4 acetate, A4 white card, gesso, lumiere paint, coloured pencils, stickles, an old ruler, small alphas and a 6x4 portrait photo
I cut a rectangle in scrap paper 6’’x4’’ and placed it behind my 12x12 acetate sheet in the position I wanted to create my photo frame. I then ran my old ruler along a black stayzon pad and used it to stamp and drag lines around the frame position and around the edges of the 12x12.
Then using the 2 different size outline flowers from the tropical garden set I built up my frame using black stayzon…
And added some to the bottom right hand corner of my 12x12 Tip I worked on my 12x12 on a piece of scrap white paper so the images were easier to see.
Flipping the acetate over I applied lumiere paints to the back of the stamped areas (lumieres are an acrylic type paint that have a metallic or pearl finish and can be use on almost any surface!)
Then I added a thin patchy layer of gesso to intensify the colour in places (I also brushed this along the edges of the 12x12)
While that was drying I stamped out some embellishments onto the A4 acetate using different colours of stayzon. You can use inkjet ready acetate that has a slightly rough surface which stops stamp slide, but ordinary acetate is fine as long as you are positive when you stamp but at the same time do not press to hard!! I used two of the stamps from the funky paisley set to create the wings (of course because the stamping is on acetate you can flip the images so you get the right shapes!) and used the large and small tropical flowers from the tropical garden set to make the butterflies. Once stamped I cut out the shapes (with a loose outline) and added extra colour with some more lumiere paints and a bit of bling with the stickles.
Leaving them to dry I stamped out the large outline flower from the tropical garden set on to the A4 white card several times and coloured them in with pencils. I cut them out and put them to one side.
Time to assemble the Layout. I cut out my photo and gathered my bits. I applied a generous amount of silicon to the wings and placed them so they were raised, then added silicon to the back of the photo, again so it was raised and was above the wings. I curled the flower petals with my thumbnail and placed them over some of the stamped flowers.
I folded the tropical flower shapes in half to create the flying butterflies
Finally I brushed some stickles over the coloured flowers to make them sparkle and added my title. This pic is to show the see through of the acetate on a wood surface, isn’t it amazing how it looks different with a different colour behind it!
It’s not only a uniquely stamped background but all the embellishments have been made with banana frog stamps, how fun is that! So your homework is to have a root through your banana frog stamp sets and see what unique acetate overlays you can make ….
And don’t forget to share them!
I’ll be back on the 23rd with another stamping school project for you so until then happy crafting and hop back soon to check out more inspiration from my fellow froglets ….. Class dismissed M x
Wow, this is really effective! Why buy printed acetate overlays when you can make your own?!
