Tea for two?

P1020472

Having recently got my hands on Shimelle's That takes the cake set of stamps I was immediately inspired to create my own cake stand complete with yummy looking cakes to decorate my tea table with!

The stand itself is made from three circular pieces of chipboard attached to an old kitchen roll tube at different heights. Each platform is covered with a selection of Rouge de Garance papers and edged with the scroll from the Circus Stories stamp set.

The top of the stand is finished off with the hearts and stars, again from the Circus Stories stamp set and I attached them to wire so that they could spring and dance about! I mounted the fun springs onto a doily to give a traditional tea time feel but with a modern twist.

Each cake is stamped onto two pieces of paper; a patterned for the cup cake bottom and a plain for the top. The tops of the cakes were then decorated with glitter to give a twinkly iced effect and a sparkly cherry was added to each one.

Finally I attached some small pearls around the edges of each level of the stand to complete the funky but traditional look.

The only downside is that I don’t get to eat the cake!

Have fun.

Pot Pourri Basket by Audrey

With the school term ending, I decided to make a simple gift for my son’s teachers. Having seen online, a couple of conical basket, I decided to try and create one.

Potpourri

Instructions
1) Trim double-sided patterned paper into 10x10”.
2) Roll the paper into a cone shape.
3) Mark out the top edges with a pencil. Punch the edge using a border punch. I used a Fiskars heart border punch. (You can omit this part if you wish)
4) Glue the seam using double-sided tape (or any other glue).
5) To decorate the bottom of the cone, cut out a small square piece of music sheet. Frill the ends by cutting them into stripes. Curl it using a scissors. Adhere to the bottom of the cone. Add a trimming around it.
6) Decorate the conical basket accordingly. Tracing the bird from a template, I used the Backgrounds stamp set to decorate it.
7) Punch two holes at the side of the basket. Attach a ribbon and any embellishment you fancy.
8) I used the Tag It stamp set to create the tag.
9) Finally, fill the basket with pot pourri.

So now you have a simple but practical gift. I think I might just be doing a few to hang them in the house!

Vicki Boutin - August guest designer!

I first saw Vicki Boutin's work a few years ago when she was on the design team for a kit club and fell in love with her style -she has the ability for bringing lots of different styles and textures together which makes me so envious! If you read any of the US magazines then you will have definitely seen Vicki and this year she is on the Scrapbooks Etc All Star Creative Team for the magazines 10th anniversary year. Vicki is also on design teams for Scenic Route and Sassafras Lass. One super talented lady!

Over to Vicki:
When Bev asked if I would like to play with some of her Banana Frog stamps, I said sure! I was totally intrigued by the fun name of company. When the stamps arrived, I loved the little envelopes they came in and the patterns were so much fun!

Once I sat down and actually used the stamps, I was totally impressed! They stamp beautifully, with nice clean impressions! And I have to say that I am in love with the cupcakes! They worked so well with my little girls birthday pictures. With the images being outlines, I was able use the stamps with some of my favourite patterned papers to make little paper piecings. Lots of fun!!!

Vicki used Budmo Jiggler, Build-a-cupcake and Concentric on this layout celebrating her daughter Devyn's 4th birthday.

Vicki has used glitter glue on the Budmo Jiggler letters to really make it stand out.

Next, Vicki used Concentric and Swirls to make this gorgeous card.
