Featured Stamp :: Fireworks

IMG_5452
Today's featured stamp seems a natural choice for this week -- Fireworks!  This set is a versatile classic that you can use again and again -- not just for firework-celebrated holidays.

IMG_9420

This stamp is one of my favourites for creating the layered effect.  Because the set includes several sizes, there's always one that is just perfect for the layer you're working on.
IMG_5357 {Click for full layout}

Use it with dye and distress inks to add subtle colour and texture to your layers, or emboss it with jewel tones to add shine and a punch of colour.  Definitely a stamp set that will help you get more from the rest of your stash, so get it in your collection and start stamping away!

And by the way...
are you following BananaFrog on Twitter?  If you love both the tweets and the bananas, you should definitely follow the frog for updates!

Happy stamping, Froglets!

Love and glitter,
Shimelle.~*

July's Colour Focus

The months are certainly flying by quickly and we come to another month of Colour Focus. This month's inspiration come from a well-known fabric designer who had had some of her fabric designs translated into paper too! Who am I talking about... Amy Butler. A browse at her site produce this month's inspiration for Colour Focus:

Swing bag

The talented Froglets were delighted and came up with some amazing creations this month.

Anthea came up with this lovely LO using stamp sets from Its all about Scallops, Teen Large, Funky Flowers and Swirls.

Anthea
Tip: Add life to your stamped flowers with Pearls and a little distressing on the petals and group several flowers together. When stamping a title, outline the letters with a gel pen for definition.

Emeline produced a very delightful and colourful card using Perfect Paisley and Dear Joe IV (upper)  stamp sets.

Emeline

She used brown pigment ink for the alphabets and went over with gold pen ink for a gradual color tint.
Paisley patterns are stamped onto a cardstock, looped to creat a faux ribbon look.

Francine was inspired by the bow on the bag as well as the colours and went for a girly page!

Francine
She used Pharmacy (large), It's All About Arrows and Make a Chain stamp set.

Kirsty came up with a happy-new-home card. For once, instead of starting with a stamped image, she worked the project around the sentiment sticker. It's from Cosmo Cricket's Early Bird collection, which has a really cool, retro fifties feel that she wanted to echo in the background. After sifting through  her Banana Frog stamps for something suitable, she found a perfect match. It's actually a flower centre from the Build A Bloom set, but it reminded her of the atomic symbols that were a popular design feature in the 1950s. She love the way it turned out, stamped and embossed in white, and it's definitely inspired her to see which of her other stamps she can look at (and use!) with fresh eyes.

Kirsty

Jo produced a decorative canvas using the large flower from the Scibble flower set - one of  her all time Banana Frog sets! She embossed in white on a red background, teamed with lettuce acrylic paint, a sprinkling of gems, brads and Prima flowers.

Jo
Here's a closeup view of it:

Finally, Julie used the 'Fanciful' set to create ornate corners and the 'Tag It' set for her journaling blocks.  She used clear embossing powder over metallic inks to add a sheen to the images.

Hope you have been inspired by the creations. Do show us what you have done with Banana Frog stamps.

Project of the day: 3D cards

Good morning every one!
How are you?
I love summer even if in this moment I'm very busy with my university examinations... OH MY GOD!
Ok let's start for a new creative adventure! Hihihi ;)
Today we'll make together 3d embellishments with BF stamps and glossy accents glue;)

Materials you will need to create:

Materiali

  • glossy accent o paper glaze by alenee's
  • cardboard stripe in size 10cm x 30cm
  • trimmer
  • sewing machine (not necessary you can handstitch)
  • fabric scraps
  • ink pads of you favourite colors
  • chipboards or letter stickers
  • stamps by BANANA FROG:

it's all about documenting
142029-documenting-image
it's all about stars
174047-stars-image
it's all about scallop
173945-scallops-image

Ok go go goooooo!!!Very easyyyyyyyy and fast idea!

Cut the cardboard stripe in three pieces of dimension 10x10cm.
Here the backgrounds for  your cards
Choose one of your favourite stamps and ink pads and stamp it in the centre of the square cardboard.

Cucitura

Stitch a fabric scrap  to the cardboard and with the sewing machine create a sort of frame around the stamped shape.

Add the dimensional glossy accent to give 3d effect to the stamped shape.
Let it dry. More glaze you put on the shape more 3d effet you'll have for it.

Paperglaze
Paperglaze2
Paperglaze3 In this last card I used a 3d paint also very cool!;)
Ok once the glaze is dry you can add chipboard or letter stickers and any kind of embellishments you want. I have chosen word stickers and chipboard letters.

A detail about the 3d effect

I've been 40 years old for a while now ;o) and I live in Brabant with my husband and four children. I'm on the editorial board at Cards Only magazine and you could say that scrapping has always been a hobby of mine, because now that the scrapbooks and diaries have been done the mini albums and cards are a favourite of mine! I especially like the smaller projects and love to blog because it's so wonderful to be able to share the scrapvirus with all you lovely bloggers!

Birthday Banner:

HPIM0077

To make the Birthday banner, first stamp some large arrows (from It's all about arrows) on patterned paper. Cut them out. Decorate and add letters. Finally,  bind them together with scrappersflos, embroidery thread, ribbon or string.

Arrow Baskets:

HPIM0078

To make the arrow basket first start by making the basket shape. The front and back of the basket are 2x2", the sides are 2x1". You could cut these from one piece of card or stick the pieces together.

Stamp the large arrows onto patterned paper and cut out. Stick to the front and back of the basket.

HPIM0080

Embellish the basket (I used another arrow from It's all about Arrows and text from Tag It!). Fill with little goodies!

Thank you Moon for two super cute projects. The arrow baskets are a fantastic idea for teachers!
Check back on the 15th for more fantastic projects from Moon.

Project of the day: Going dotty

Recently I have become re-addicted to Liquid Pearls, I can't seem to get enough of adding little pearly dots here and there to all my card projects... and why should this addition not extend to my Banana Frog stamps?

There's something very therapeutic about adding those little dots to your stamped images, and there's no reason for them to just be pastel colours.

I stamped the background in red ink using a design from the Concentric set:

 Nat - June potd 1

And added red Liquid Pearls:

Nat - June potd 1 close-up

But of course there is always room for pastel colours, and the best tip is to stamp your image using Versamark, I used Flowery Thoughts for this card and added the stem and leaves by hand using a Versamark pen, and then just went over with Liquid Pearls:

Nat - June potd 2

Nat - June potd 2 close-up

Once my Liquid Pearl addiction has run its course I shall be back to adding Stickles dots!

Project of the Day - Standing Tall

Hi there, Anthea here and today I am going to share one of my projects using Banana Frog stamps.

I was asked by some friends of mine if I would help to create an album for their daughter who had spent quite some time in hospital. I jumped at the chance, what a wonderful way for them to look back upon what must have been a hard time for them all. This layout today is about their daughter standing up in a new splint (from memory she went through 3 splints)

IMG_5121

Here I have used a couple of different sets to create this layout.IMG_5122

I just love the Its all about Scallops set, and I have used the smaller scallop to stamp around my patterned paper like as if it were a border.

IMG_5124  I have used the same set again here to create a scalloped edge to my patterned paper. I only inked part of the stamp then stamped along the length of the paper, then I hand cut out the design to reveal a scalloped edge.

IMG_5123 I also *heart* the Its all about Circles line and here I have curved one of the stamps slightly so I could stamp out in a circle shape then hand cut it out and used it as a border around my circle patterned paper.

IMG_5125  I also used the Funky Flowers set. first I stamped it on my patterned paper to add some colour to it, then I stamped it on my cardstock randomly to give an almost falling flower feel.

Thanks for stopping by, till next time Happy Scrapping.

Project of the Day - Fabric Mini Book

Hello all.

Its my turn to share a project of the day with you all.

I really enjoy making minibooks to share with my friends and family as they make ideal gifts.
After recently revamping my scraproom I had some scraps of calico material leftover - so I thought I'd have a go at making a fabric mini book.

Using Stazon and Banana Frog Funky Flowers stamps, I stamped and image onto an off cut of Burlap.

1

I then stitched around the image using embroidery floss.

2

A seed bead was then stitched to the centre of the bloom before I cut the image out.

3

To create the mini book I cut a 31/2 x 7 strip of cardboard, to which I scored a 1/2 inch spine.
I then covered the book with a scrap of Calico.

4

To keep everything secure I added a row of stitching around the outside edge before attaching the stitched bloom.
I used a Velcro tab to fasten the book.

5

The inside pages were stitched along the spine and I added further stamps from the Funky Flowers collection to decorate.

6

Thanks for popping by to take a look at the project of the day.
Happy stamping.

June's Colour Focus

Welcome back to another round of June's Colour Focus. Here's a reminder of what the Froglets had to be inspired by:

#advert

Anthea came up with a lovely LO using stamp sets from It's All About Circles/Scallops.

Anthea
Tip: stamp on your chipboard embellishments to add uniquness. To add a aged feel to your title apply glue to some places and then put some old book pages on top, once the glue is dry rip the paper back leaving what is attached behind, then lightly rub over it with a ink pad.

Audrey made a Christmas card. It's never too early to start preparing for Christmas and the colours reminded her of the festive season.

Audrey

She used stamp sets from Retro Greeting, Diamonds Forever, I Heart You and It's All About Stars. Here's a closer view of the card:

Audrey_closeup

Tip: To create the 'leaves' of the Xmas tree, stamp 6 hearts images from I Heart You. Curl the bottom of the heart with a scissors and arrange and attach to the card. Stamp a star image and cut down to size. Adhere to the top of the tree.

Kirsty has produced a delightful bird feeder using recycled materials and decorated with Circus Stories stamp set.

Kirsty
The base is an empty soup carton, with added scraps, paint and (of course) stamps. Kirsty used water-based ink to stamp, and then sprayed the whole thing with a clear exterior varnish. It won't last forever, but should be hardy enough to survive the summer! Anyone wanting to try something similar could also make an indoor version, perfect for a  handmade fabric or papier-mache bird to perch on.

Jo has created a 'grunge' card:

 Jo

Plain white card with corners rounded off (making memories corner chomper), painted with Lettuce acrylic paint (Ranger dabbers), Stamped with oval 'love' tag from 'I Heart You' stamp set and the word 'with' created using the 'Willing Race' stamp set (using Archival ink). Other elements created with punches and nestabilities die cuts, crocheted & ribbon flowers.

Julie used 'I Heart You' stamp set (a fav among the Froglets this month) to create this wonderful LO:

Julie
Here's a closer view of it:

Lory created a this frame using It's All About Stars stamp set.

Lory
She stamped the stars, cut them out and used foam dots to give it a dimensional effect.

Mary used Take Note stamp set to create this gorgeous card.

Mary
Here's a closer view of it:

Mary_closeup

In this card, she used the journaling image as a background pattern.

Last but not least, Tracie created a stunning LO. She used stamps from the Take Note collection to create a ribbon effect border and journaling blocks for this page:

Tracie
Here's a closer view of it:

The talented Froglets have certainly showed you how to look at Banana Frog stamps in a different light e.g. journaling images are turned into background patterns, hearts became leaves for a Xmas tree, stamped images are cut out and used as accents on a project. Do show us what you can do with Banana Frog stamps in our Flickr group. Have a lovely stamping day!

Stamping School- Stained Glass Stamping

Hi all, well here I am as an official froglet and thrilled to be bringing you my first stamping school! Just before we start can I say thank you to everyone for their lovely comments on my guest spots this month and also thank you to all for a warm welcome to Banana Frog! Ok with that out of the way here’s another project to get the old grey cells whirring….

Stained glass tea light jars

1TEALIGHTS ON TABLE

Following on from the mardi gras masquerade project I did for my last guest spot I wanted to explore further the possibilities of stamping without the acrylic block, at the same time we had some lovely summer evenings (no honestly we did!) and while sitting in the garden I thought how lovely it would be to have lanterns in the trees, and voila the tea light jars stamped in pretty patterns came to mind!

The ingredients!

2TEALIGHTS THE INGREDIENTS

This is a simple and quick project but very effective. You can really go to town on your Banana Frog stamp sets, the possibilities are endless! I used Round in circles, It’s all about circles, Funky paisley and Tropical garden. You will also need some permanent ink e.g. stayzon, some thin wire (I used gardening wire) and some bits and bobs for embellishing, e.g. raffia, string, butterflies form a hambly overlay, prima flowers, stickles and charms oh and of course some jars!!!

Clean your jars thoroughly getting rid of all grease and then select some stamps to make a pattern. To ink the stamps I used the plastic that covers the stamps as a base

3TEALIGHTS APPLY INK

Carefully pick up the stamp and, for the smaller ones, place it in the palm of your hand then place it on to the jar, TIP be positive where it is going to go and don’t press to hard straight away or it will slip!!! In effect we are using the palm of the hand as the acrylic block. Build up your pattern

4TEALIGHTS USE HAND FOR SMALL STAMP

For the larger stamp, place them onto the surface and then place your hand over it to evenly stamp it. (it may take a while to get used to it but it’s only a jar that would otherwise end up in the recycling bin, and if you’re anything like me you will have a hoard of interesting shaped jars that you keep ‘just in case’!!)

5TEALIGHTS PLACE LARGER STAMPS

Keep building up your pattern with different size stamps and different colour inks.

6TEALIGHTS BUILD UP PATTERN

I love the funky paisley stamps and for this jar I inked the stamp in yellow dabbing round the edges in black cherry to get a shaded effect on the stamped image.

7TEALIGHTS INK PAISLEY

Again put the stamp in the palm of your hand and mould it around your jar

8TEALIGHTS STAMP PAISLEY

Ok you get the picture of how this works so use your lovely Banana Frog stamps and different colours to make each jar individual.

9TEALIGHTS JARS STAMPED

Once they are all stamped make a wire handle, leave long ends (to fold up later)

10TEALIGHTS MAKE HANDLE

Wrap wire around the grooves of the jar catching the long ends of the handle, twisting the 2 ends together and then twisting the long ends of the handle up and over this to secure your handle.

11TEALIGHTS SECURE HANDLES

Further decorate your jars by picking out bits of the stamped image. I used stickles, crystals and a gold permanent marker TIP put some tissue or loo roll inside the jar so you can see the stamped image clearer for decorating!

12TEALIGHTS DECORATE

Add raffia and string to the tops, with charms, flowers and butterflies.

13TEALIGHTS NO CANDLE CLOSE UP 1

14TEALIGHTS NO CANDLE CLOSE UP 2

I wrapped some gardening wire around the branches of one of my trees and hung the jars on them

15TEALIGHTS IN THE TREE 1

The photo doesn’t really do them justice; they are so pretty and magical in real life, so you will just have to make your own to see for yourself!

They also look great in the middle of the garden table, as you sit drinking a glass of wine breathing in the scent of the honeysuckle drifting on the summer evening air (what an old romantic!!)

16TEALIGHTS CLOSE UP 1

And that’s it! Told you it was a simple but effective project! Go on get your Banana Frog stamps out, raid the recycle bin and give it a go, you know you want to! And don’t forget to share the results!! I hope you’ve had fun at my first stamping school I’ll be off now to cook up something else for my next one on the 11th July, see you there you don’t want an absent mark do you?!

Thanks for dropping by and come back soon to see what the other talented froglets have to share with you, until then happy stamping!!

Love

M x

Project of the Day :: Congrats card

DSC_0024
An upcoming wedding inspired me to make this classy black and silver congrats card. I stamped Scribble Flowers with Versamark onto a white card base, and I embossed the stamped images in silver powder. After embossing them, I rubbed a black ink pad over the entire card, and the boring white card was transformed into a striking patterned paper!

DSC_0012
DSC_0013 For the bottom portion of the card, I stamped silver paper with the woodgrain image from the Backgrounds set, and after the ink dried, I stamped the letters "congrats!" from the Willing Race set.

DSC_0019

A little ribbon and a fancy floral pin, and you have a quick, pretty wedding card!

Happy scrapping!

Mary
